Book Overview

It's 1870, and Sarah Winston is traveling from Philadelphia, where she has attended school. She is excited to be reunited with her brother at his ranch in Texas. Just hours from her destination, she is accused of being a traitor to the Union during the war. Before she can defend herself, she is brutally arrested by an army patrol and taken to Fort Davis.

Unconscious when she arrives, the doctor assures the arresting officer she is too young to be the woman they have sought. Her accuser refuses to believe the truth and vows to do anything to make sure she pays for her crimes. He is on a quest for revenge and will not let anyone stand in his way. He vows she will pay, even if he has to shoot her himself.

Content Review

Romance

I liked this book because the romance was clean and slow. There was only one kissing episode at the end of the book that is not detailed. There is also mention of a side character flirting with someone else, but not in detail.

Negative Elements

Death- 4

Some characters die and their deaths are described with some detail, but not too much.

Violence- 4

Some characters are beaten and treated very badly by the antagonist. A character is shot, and his pain and surgery are described.

Slavery-1

A sad story is told of before the war when a family owned slaves and the slave's family was separated.

Positive Elements

Sara is a strong Christian, as are most of the main characters in the book. We see themes of redemption, forgiveness, and second chances.

Accused a Traitor was a fun, no-spice romance by a new author. This is the author's only current book. Sadly, this was published 10 years ago, so I do not believe there will be any sequels. I went ahead and gave this four stars because while it was hard to put down, there were some typos/grammar mistakes, and the whole book felt a bit rushed. This is my third or fourth time reading it, and before it didn't feel so rushed, but this time it did. The paperback copy is 263 pages, but I think it easily could have been 300 pages or more. However, I do think you would enjoy it and should check it out!
